Reflection
"Set in a high school culinary arts class, a student named Nadin feels deeply embarrassed when her grandmother, Nek Syafitri, joins as a guest teacher to demonstrate how to cook Kuah Pliek U, a traditional Acehnese dish. Nadin secretly complains about the strong, pungent smell of the fermented coconut dregs (pliek u), labeling it outdated and comparing it to trash. However, Nek Syafitri gently changes her perspective by sharing a powerful story from the past. She reveals that during the intense Aceh military conflict, when markets were shut down and starvation loomed, these long-lasting fermented coconut dregs combined with wild backyard vegetables were the only food that kept their family alive. Realizing that the dish is a profound symbol of her people's survival and resilience, a tearful Nadin takes her first bite. Tasting its rich and complex flavors, her embarrassment instantly transforms into deep gratitude and pride for her ancestral heritage."
