Culturally Responsive Digital Storytelling (CR-DST) is an innovative learning model designed to enhance university students’ English-speaking skills by integrating culturally responsive learning, digital storytelling, and Acehnese local wisdom.
CR-DST provides students with opportunities to learn English through cultural experiences that are familiar and meaningful to them. Instead of practicing speaking through topics that may be distant from their everyday lives, students explore stories, traditions, historical places, local values, arts, and other forms of Acehnese cultural heritage as meaningful sources for English communication.
Through CR-DST, students move from exploring their cultural identity to creating and sharing their own digital stories in English. They select an aspect of Acehnese local wisdom, explore its meaning and cultural values, develop an English story script, practice pronunciation and speaking, record their narration, combine it with digital media, and finally present their digital story to others.
